Title of Practitioner:  DOM (Doctor of Oriental Medicine)

Education and Examination Requirements:

To be a D.O.M. in Nevada , an applicant must have successfully completed a three year course in acupuncture or a four year course in traditional Oriental medicine and have practiced acupuncture and herbal medicine for six years.

“Acupuncture Assistant” is defined as an individual with the same training as a DOM, but not the six years of experience.  An Acupuncture Assistant may only work under the direct supervision of a DOM.

Nevada administers its own acupuncture examination

Practice of Acupuncture by other Health Care Providers:

A medical doctor or osteopath may practice acupuncture in Nevada if he/she has received “adequate training”.  Adequate training is not defined or legislated.

Acupuncture is not within the scope of practice of chiropractors.
