| Admission as a Regular Student |
To apply for admission as
a regular student, please follow the instructions of the Admissions Office,
including these steps:
- Complete and submit an Application for Admission with the
required non-refundable application fee.
- Attach a brief typed essay describing your
capabilities and reasons for pursuing a career in Oriental Medicine.
- Have official transcripts from all colleges
attended sent directly to the Admissions Office. Work-in-progress statements, if
applicable, must be included. (Note: Your previous college work is considered a
pre-admission requirement. Occasionally some of an applicant's previous college credits
beyond those presented to satisfy the two-year entrance requirement will fulfill a Samra
course requirement, resulting in advanced standing for a new student. If you feel a
previous course transfer should be granted such credit, you may complete a Samra
"Petition for Credit:')
- An admissions interview with at least two members of the
Admissions Committee.
- Fulfill the TOEFL and TSE requirement (if applicable).
- Fulfill other requirements as requested by the Admissions
Office. These might include, for example, letters of recommendation or a resume.

Applicants |
Those who are not U.S. citizens
or Permanent Residents must also supply the following to the Admissions Office:
- Official translation and/or evaluation of all required
transcripts. Guidance for this procedure may be obtained from the Admissions Office.
- In order to assist foreign students who are applying for a
Student Visa (F-l) by processing Form I-20, the Office will need a Certificate of Account
Balance for your (or, if applicable, your parents' or your spouse's) bank account, showing
the current amount on deposit in U.S. Dollar equivalents. If you will be
sponsored by someone other than yourself, your parents or your spouse, then that
individual must complete and submit the Form I-134 (Affidavit of Support).
- If your native language is not one in which you will study
at Samra (English, Mandarin Chinese or Korean), you will be required to demonstrate your
English Language proficiency. Through submission of the official report of the TOEFL (Test
of English as a Foreign Language) and the TSE (Test of Spoken English). For additional information, refer to the
"English Language Requirement" section on page 41.
- Foreign Student Service Fee.

Requirement |
"For students entering the
program after August 1, 1997, the accrediting commission, ACAOM, requires English language
competency of all students seeking admission to the program taught in English. This may be
satisfied by scoring at least 500 on the Test for English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or
by satisfying any other standards approved in advance by ACAOM." For those
completing the program in Chinese or Korean, a TOEFL score of at least 450 must be
attained. Applicants who do not satisfy the requirement may be considered for admission
with English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, but they must satisfy the proficiency in
English before beginning the clinical experience. The Test of Spoken English must also be taken by foreign students. A minimum score of 30 must be attained.

After processing your completed application, the Admissions Committee will inform you of
its decision.
Several of the steps outlined above require a lot of time to accomplish. It is wise to
start the process well in advance of the term for which you are applying. To have the
fullest opportunity for admission and to apply for financial aid, your application file
should be completed four weeks before the start of classes. After this time, students
maybe admitted only as time and space permit.
